About the company
KAPITAL LIFE (Kapital Life Insurance LLC) is a specialist life insurer registered in Moscow in 2004. It serves individual customers across Russia through its own agent network, offices and partners, and also insures employees of companies.
Since 2026 KAPITAL LIFE has been part of the Sovcombank group. According to the company, it is included in the Bank of Russia’s list of systemically important insurers, which means closer regulatory attention to its stability and reporting.
Its Bank of Russia licences (SZh, SL and PS No. 3984) cover voluntary life insurance, personal insurance other than life, and reinsurance. The company does not sell property insurance, OSAGO (compulsory motor third-party liability insurance) or KASKO (motor hull insurance).
Insurance products
The core of the portfolio is long-term cover for individuals:
- Life insurance — endowment (NSZh) and investment-linked (ISZh) plans, family protection in case of the insured person’s death, plans for children.
- Accident insurance — benefits for injuries, disability and hospitalisation.
- Critical illness insurance — a lump sum on diagnosis of a serious illness, often as a rider to the main policy.
- Voluntary health insurance (DMS) and travel insurance — as stand-alone products or add-ons.
For employers there is employee health insurance and employee accident insurance.
Long-term life insurance contracts (signed from 2025 for at least 10 years) may qualify for the long-term savings tax deduction under Article 219.2 of the Tax Code — check the terms with the insurer.
Key figures
According to the Bank of Russia, in 2025 KAPITAL LIFE collected RUB 28.5 billion in premiums and paid out RUB 15.7 billion to customers. This places it 21st among all Russian insurers by premiums (a market share of about 0.7%). In the first half of 2026 premiums were RUB 14.3 billion and payouts RUB 7.5 billion (23rd place).
Rating and financial strength
The rating agency NKR (National Credit Ratings) assigned the company a credit rating of AA.ru (22.04.2026) with an “uncertain” outlook. Such an outlook is usually linked to a change of owner and means the agency will assess the new group’s influence later.
A note on guarantees: the system guaranteeing life insurance payouts through the Deposit Insurance Agency (ASV) is introduced by Federal Law No. 477-FZ and starts only on 1 January 2027. Until then there is no state guarantee on life insurance contracts, so before buying a long-term policy read the terms carefully: guaranteed return, surrender values on early termination and exclusions.

If an insured event occurs, report it as early as possible and prepare the documents: a claim form, a copy of your passport, medical records (discharge summaries, certificates of injury or diagnosis), and in case of the insured person’s death — the death certificate and documents confirming the rights of the beneficiary or heir. The exact list and processing times are set out in the policy rules of your plan.
If the insurer refuses to pay or you disagree with the amount, send a written claim and then apply to the Financial Ombudsman — free of charge for individuals in disputes of up to RUB 500,000. Learn more in the Insured event section.
