What is trade credit insurance
Credit insurance (accounts receivable insurance) protects a supplier that ships goods on deferred payment terms against non-payment by the buyer — due to bankruptcy or protracted default. The insurer:
- assesses buyers' creditworthiness and sets a credit limit for each of them;
- monitors changes in counterparties' financial position;
- in case of non-payment, reimburses the agreed share of the debt and helps recover receivables in Russia and abroad.
Such a policy helps a company offer deferred payment to buyers, enter new markets more safely and sometimes obtain better bank financing against receivables. The product is designed for medium-sized and large companies with significant turnover.
For other commercial risks — property, cargo, liability — see the Business Insurance section.
