About the company

MAKS-Life (MAKS Life Insurance Company LLC) is a specialist life insurer belonging to the MAKS insurance group. It has been active in life insurance since 2004 and is based in Moscow, at the same address as the group’s parent company, MAKS JSC.

Its Bank of Russia licences SZh and SL No. 4013 cover voluntary life insurance and personal insurance other than life. Policies are sold directly, through agents and in partner banks’ branches.

Information on the company’s management bodies is temporarily not published under a decision of the Bank of Russia Board of Directors — many insurers currently have this right.

Insurance products

  • Endowment life insurance — regular or single premiums; at maturity the customer receives the sum insured, and if the insured person dies the family receives a payout.
  • Investment-linked life insurance — part of the return depends on the chosen strategy and investment results; usually only the return of premiums at maturity is guaranteed.
  • Borrower protection — life and health cover for loans, including where required by the bank. If the policy was taken out with a loan and no insured event has occurred, you can cancel it during the cooling-off period — at least 14 calendar days from the date of purchase.
  • Health-care plans and accident insurance — benefits for injury, disability and hospitalisation.
  • For employers — employee accident insurance.

Within the MAKS group, cars, property and voluntary health insurance are covered by MAKS JSC — see the MAKS profile.

Key figures

According to the Bank of Russia, in 2025 MAKS-Life collected RUB 21.1 billion in premiums and paid customers RUB 10.9 billion, ranking 24th in the Russian insurance market (a share of about 0.5%). In the first half of 2026 premiums reached RUB 15.3 billion and payouts RUB 9.0 billion, and the company rose to 21st place.

Rating and financial strength

On 30.03.2026 the National Rating Agency (NRA) affirmed the company’s credit rating at AA-|ru| with a stable outlook.

A note on guarantees: life insurance payouts will be protected by the Deposit Insurance Agency (ASV) guarantee scheme only from 1 January 2027, under Federal Law No. 477-FZ. Until then there is no state guarantee on such contracts. Before buying a policy, check the guaranteed return, the surrender value on early termination (in the first years it is usually well below the premiums paid) and how additional investment income is credited.

Long-term life insurance contracts (signed from 2025 for at least 10 years) may qualify for the long-term savings tax deduction under Article 219.2 of the Tax Code — check the terms with the insurer. Investment-linked life insurance should not be seen as a substitute for a bank deposit: additional income is not guaranteed and depends on the market.
